Under the supervision of the Executive Director and the Lodge Supervisor the On-Call Support Worker is available to be called in to cover shifts for workers who are absent. On-Call workers are scheduled to be available for 3 shifts in a week. A flat rate is paid for being on-call, if a shift is required then an hourly wage is paid. On-Call must be available to work some overnights and weekends if necessary.

Job Summary

 Support Worker staff will provide support and services to women at the Lodge. This position is a part-time position. The Overnight Support Staff will represent Thunder Woman Healing Lodge Society by demonstrating the qualities of the Seven Grandfather Teachings: Respect, Honesty, Truth, Humility, Courage Wisdom and Love.

Responsibilities

  • Always practice strict COVID-19 Protocols
  • Assist clients using a holistic approach focused on healing, rebuilding, and attending to practical needs
  • Provide appropriate professional understanding and intervention in response to emotional, behavioural, physical, and cultural needs of clients.
  • Utilize effective conflict resolution skills.
  • Maintain confidentiality of residents while exercising good judgement and discretion in dealing with confidential information.
  • Complete all necessary documentation, including written records/reports, case notes and checklists
  • Provide guidance to clients in relation to mental, emotional, physical, and cultural supports
  • Perform other organizational duties as assigned
  • Maintain security and safety of house

Team Support and Development

  • Contribute to the orientation and training of new staff, students, and volunteers.
  • Participate in informal and formal team meetings to review and discuss cases, secure, and offer advice concerning clients and provide input into team and operational issues.

Other

  • Comply with the agency Health and Safety plan.
  • Comply with agency policies and procedures.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • At minimum, a post-secondary diploma in social services or a related field
  • Experience in residential setting is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of the impact of the incarceration of Indigenous women
  • In depth knowledge of Indigenous, history, culture, and traditions along with an understanding of the barriers facing Indigenous peoples.
  • Valid Level I First Aid Certificate
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Experience providing individual and group support
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as an effective team member.
  • Understanding and delivery of trauma informed, anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices.
  • Ability to deal effectively with conflict and crisis.
  • Must be able to have flexibility of hours and availability Current knowledge of community programs and resources
  • Ability to maintain a clean, calm environment
  • Valid Level I First Aid Certificate TWHLS will assist in obtaining if necessary

Conditions of employment:

Start Date:  Immediate

Wage:                   $50 daily while on-call. $24 an hour if called in for a shift.
